The $27 million State Route 28 Etna Bypass project was completed in seven months. Mascaro had to maintain traffic while completing a bridge erection that had severely skewed girders with built-in post-pour horizontal end rotation. Mascaro called it a "tough build." The construction included roadway and bridge reconstruction and 30,000 cubic yards of concrete during phases IV and V of the project, all while protecting vehicle traffic and pedestrians below the bridge.
What makes it interesting?
Mascaro was in need of work at the time and won by being 1 percent low. They had to protect vehicle traffic and pedestrians, maintaining traffic during construction.
