The Mehaffey Bridge Replacement Project Located in Johnson County Iowa, the Mehaffey Bridge spans a section of the Coralville Reservoir. The bridge structure will be a 565’ x 40’ roadway with a 12’ wide pedestrian sidewalk. The unique design results in a type of suspension bridge that uses cast-in-place concrete support angles, with encased post-tension cables in place of a traditional cable system.
What makes it interesting?
The nontraditional design (coupled with Midwest weather). The new suspension support arm structures have been built literally around the current, open-to-traffic roadway. Most of the crane work is being done off barges. It is Johnson County’s largest road construction project to date. Traffic will be maintained throughout the project, with only a short time of single-lane flow.
How HCSS Software assisted with this project
The bid was won using HeavyBid and is managed by HeavyJob, and Dispatcher. We also use the Heavy Job MobileApp. Because this project letting was a re-bid, HeavyBid allowed the estimators to quickly and accurately view, compare and adjust historical data. Another benefit has been how well HCSS software works with our accounting software, really enhancing the value of reports from both. It’s a huge time saver to go from an estimate in HeavyBid to a created job file in HeavyJob, Dispatcher, and our accounting software.
