A powerhouse in U.S. construction, Allan Myers specializes in heavy civil projects that include roads, bridges, utilities, and site development. Since 1971, they’ve been in the business of delivering high-quality infrastructure for both public and private sectors. Their strong focus on safety and innovation has allowed them to build a stellar reputation for excellence in the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond.
We recently caught up with their IT Technical Lead, Corwin Fontaine, to discuss how HCSS has helped them get to the next level as a go-to leader in the construction industry.

Moving to HeavyJob Web is Nothing to Fear
Despite the many miracles technology can work in our daily lives, it’s understandable that change sometimes induces anxiety. Putting to bed that disruptive energy, the migration to HeavyJob Web that Allan Myers underwent stands out as a refreshingly positive experience. In fact, their transition to this web-based platform was the exact opposite of stressful.
“The HeavyJob Web conversion has been really smooth,” Fontaine explains. “We’ve been working with your API team to take an API-based approach. We’re trying to move away from the DIS and go directly to API, and working with your team has been phenomenal. That’s just not just a marketing ploy, it’s gone really well. So we’ve worked with your team directly, and we’ve been able to make really quick progress going from our ERP to HCSS and back. It’s been a really nice process. It’s surprisingly hands-off, so to speak, where we get the work from your team, and we get the directions on how we do and the API documentation, then our developers go straight into it, and rarely do we ever come back with any problems. It’s been great.

The cross-functionality between HCSS programs has been another highlight for users like Allan Myers transitioning to HeavyJob Web, enhancing workflows.
“We love how the meetings go across the module into the time card and ties in directly with how we can pull in attendees and get attendees added to the meeting,” Fontaine continues. “We love the bulk update functionality from the time card work, and we’re really excited with the way our payroll team is going to interact with HeavyJob Web, moving away from HeavyJob Manager on the desktop and going to a web UI (user interface). It looks really clean. They’re really excited about it, and we’ve had to make some operational adjustments, but it’s definitely been for the positive.”
Field-Friendly Technology + Support that Delivers
HeavyJob Web’s user-friendly approach has made adoption remarkably straightforward for construction companies that pride themselves on innovation, particularly for field personnel.
“I actually take great pride in speaking about Allan Myers as being an innovative construction company,” Fontaine says. “A lot of our field managers are really quick to pick up new technology. The good news is that HCSS has made it extremely simple. I think one of the things I hear most commonly is the time card is their favorite part, working on their iPad, because it’s just the easiest thing to use.”

When challenges do arise, HCSS’s technical support team has consistently exceeded expectations – especially during the move to HeavyJob Web.
“When we’ve run into a problem, and we’ve needed to call the tech support team, it has been phenomenal,” Fontaine adds. “The name that HCSS has in terms of their support team, and the reviews, they stand up every single time. I can call at 7:30 at night and be like, ‘Hey, I need some help re-indexing some bid files.’ And they’ll hop on and it’s so extremely fast. They walk me through it, straightforward. We’ve had the same thing with HeavyJob. Whenever we run into a report error, they’re always quick to hop on and extremely friendly. Once again, not just for a marketing thing, but the three-ring policy really does stick every single time. I don’t think I’ve ever had to wait on the phone, which has been awesome.”
