Along with New Hampshire’s Keene State College and a coalition of contractors and industry associations, HCSS has helped to create the industry’s first accredited Construction Safety degree plan. HCSS feels that this major both encourages students to consider construction as a career and better prepares them for the unique challenges of safety in our industry. Too often, construction companies need to do this teaching on-the-job for new safety hires.
The accreditation process is rather lengthy and involves creating curriculum and a path to a declared major. Ultimately, once the accreditation process is completed, the degree plan may be utilized at many other colleges and universities in the United States.
The first step in this process is to create a construction-related safety curriculum that can be assembled into a minor offered through the college. This is now complete and will be offered at Keene State in the fall! Do you have a relationship with a college that offers a degreed general Safety major? Would you encourage them to consider offering similar curriculum and a Construction Safety minor? Contact us for more information.
