HCSS asked HeavyBid customers to brag. We wanted to know the largest jobs our clients had won using our estimating software. So, we put a banner on our website asking for the biggest success stories. Here’s what we got:

10. $379,054,544—I-10 Bridge Over Lake Pontchartrain, LADOT (BOH Bros. Construction, LLC) Boh Bros. served as the prime contractor to build the low- level section of the I-10 freeway, which spans 4.5 miles across Lake Pontchartrain in Orleans and St. Tammany parishes in Louisiana. The work included 36” precast pile driving, cast- in-place and precast concrete caps, and more. The contract was completed in June 2012.

9. $393,393,393—I-580 Freeway, Washoe County NVDOT (Fisher Sand and Gravel Co.) This portion of the interstate highway in northwestern Nevada was completed in 2006. The entire interstate starts in Reno and terminates south of Carson City.

8. $513,988,000—InterCounty Connector, Montgomery County Contract C MDDOT (ICC Constructors) The Contract C portion of the ICC contains approximately 3.8 miles of new six-lane highway, as well as improvements to other area roads. Construction involved interchange structures over existing highways while maintaining heavy traffic flow.

7. $559,073,500—InterCounty Connector, Montgomery County MDDOT (Facchina/Trumbull/Skanska) The ICC project included construction on a 4-mile stretch of the highway as well as a 2-mile stretch of collector-distributor roadway and two complex interchanges. The total project will create the 18.8-mile ICC to connect Montgomery County and Prince George’s County.

6. $1.5 Billion—Expo Line – Phase 2, Los Angeles County MTA (Skanska-Rados) Phase 2 of the Expo Line extended light rail service from the terminus in Culver City to Santa Monica, including seven new stations. Costs included design, construction, utility relocation, light rail vehicles and real estate.

5. $1.9 Billion—Yucca Mountain, US Department of Energy (Bechtel) Bechtel studied Yucca Mountain as the proposed site of the first national nuclear waste repository to permanently store nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste and prepared a license application for the site, which was submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in 2008.

4. $2.058 Billion—The Metro Crenshaw/LAX Corridor, Los Angeles County MTA (Walsh/Shea) The majority of the work on the transit project consisted of advanced utility relocation.

3. $2.3 Billion—BART Silicon Valley Extension, Santa Clara Transportation Authority (Skanska-Shimmick- Herzog) The BART Silicon Valley Project was a 16-mile extension of the existing railway system, including the line, track, systems and stations. The joint venture was able to bid the project at $77 Million less than the engineer’s estimate, while accelerating the schedule.

2. $2.323 Billion—I-4 Ultimate project, Orange and Seminole Counties (Skanska/Granite/Lane Construction) Florida’s largest-ever transportation project involved the reconstruction of 15 major interchanges, reconstruction of more than 140 bridges, four median toll lanes, and the rebuilding of general use lanes along a 21-mile corridor. Construction will began in the first quarter of 2015.

1. $3.9 Billion—Tappan Zee Bridge, Port Authority of New York (Fluor/Granite/American Bridge/Traylor) This bridge across the Hudson River is a 3.1-mile twin span cable-stayed bridge with angled main span towers. It is the single largest bridge construction project in New York’s history. The first span opened in 2016.
