All of AAA’s projects are diverse, which makes them very interesting. The Harris County Precinct 3 Hockley Soap Box Derby Track located in Hockley, Texas, was one of those projects. The scope of work included site preparation, drainage improvements, asphalt/concrete paving, metal flex beam guardrail, concrete structures, site restoration, and storm water pollution controls. The estimate consisted of approximately eight different material suppliers and two subcontractors. The raceway hill was made of lime fly ash stabilized subgrade, 8 inches of crushed aggregate base course, and 1.5 inches of asphalt surface course. The project was a success, and upon project completion AAA Asphalt Paving built and donated two box cars to the Harris County, Precinct 3 Hockley Soap Box Derby Track.
What makes it interesting?
AAA was up against two other bidders and won the project by staying under the engineer’s budget and coming in roughly 15 percent below the other two bidders.
