Located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, this 30-month, $200 million project is a 6-mile staged construction for full-depth roadway reconstruction and Widening of the Pennsylvania Turnpike from two lanes to three lanes. In addition to widening the roadway, this project involves removal and reconstruction of 8 bridges, 20 MSE type retaining walls, 45,000 square feet of sculpted shotcrete soil nail walls and 4.5 miles of noise wall barrier.
What makes it interesting?
This job will consume and move a massive amount of material. It has more than 460,000 tons of asphalt, 120,000 cubic yards of concrete and 800,000 cubic yards of earthwork. While all this is being done, we must always maintain 2 lanes in each direction for the more than 67,000 cars and trucks that travel this 6 mile stretch of roadway daily.
How HCSS Software assisted with this project
We have come to value HeavyBid as a critical tool in our companies estimating process. HeavyBid outperforms all our previous methods for preparing and reviewing estimates. In the estimate creation stage, the manner in which HeavyBid organizes and standardizes the input of information has saved us a lot of time and confusion. Especially with estimates of this size, the project demanded that we have over 200 bid items, 3000 individual construction activities and at times, up to dix estimators in this particular estimate at a time. Performance was never a problem. Then once it came time to review, HeavyBid’s infrastructure construction software review tools made it easy to find missing items, errors and quickly fix what was inconsistent or incorrect.
