From headquarters in Sugar Land, TX right outside of Houston, HCSS is recognized as a pioneer and leader in construction software, with thousands of companies relying on the platform daily for all of their industry needs.

The CSX Radnor Yard Pump Station is located at the company’s Intermodal Yard, originally constructed by filling in a ravine. Over time, the 50-foot-deep, 12-inch gravity sewer line serving the facility collapsed under high traffic rail lines. The solution was to locate the collapse and build a new sewage pump station just upstream, where a new force main could be directionally drilled to the downstream manhole. CVC used 15-foot steel liner plates to excavate a work shaft 32 feet deep. Once the existing sewer was encountered, the shaft continued 10 feet more to allow for wetwell storage capacity. A precast wetwell with submersible pumps was installed inside the shaft, and a precast valve vault was installed adjacent to the pump station. Connections were made at the pump station and a drop connection was made at the downstream manhole 50 feet deep.

What makes it interesting?

This project was completed on time and on budget, despite work being in an active rail yard between active tracks to excavate a work shaft 32 feet deep. The existing ground contained boulders as large as 2 cubic yards.

How HCSS Software assisted with this project

Cumberland Valley Constructors (CVC) is a 5-year-old heavy construction company with less than 30 employees that has estimated using HCSS HeavyBid from the beginning. CVC was able to submit a multi-discipline estimate with breakouts to match the engineer’s bid form.
