Project Description
The Calumet Refinery Expansion Project was an interesting industrial construction projects. The Calumet refinery in Great Falls, Montana, has been in operation since 1922 and refines crude oil from fields in northern Montana. The refinery has been undergoing a five-year, $25 million expansion. This expansion doubled its production from 10,000 barrels per day to 20,000 barrels per day.
Loenbro was involved in every step of the project, from soil reclamation, pipe construction, other fabrication, non-destructive inspection, drafting, and updating records of the original plant diagrams with any new construction.

How HCSS Software assisted with the Project.
This project was managed through HeavyJob in a bid and time-and-materials aspect. The industrial construction side uses HeavyJob to maintain records of production, inventory, manpower, and equipment. Inspection utilizes the time and material functions to track work and billing. Both sides use HeavyJob for time entry and payroll export.
"HCSS software gives our field engineers and project managers instantaneous costs to the job because we have calculated hourly rates of what the equipment costs, and they’re able to get real-time job costing data to monitor how much it’s costing them."
- Joey Micheletti, Equipment Systems Engineer, Loenbro
