Massman was involved in the rebuild of tainter gates of the active Marseilles Lock and Dam on the Illinois River just south of Chicago. Five of the eight tainter gates on the dam were damaged by a runaway tow of barges that lost power upstream of the dam. The most critical damage was to gate trunnions, hinges that anchor the gate to the dam. The trunnions between Gates 2 and 3 were severely damaged, and the anchor beam was broken off. Gate 2 was sent downstream and wedged within the dam gate piers.
What makes it interesting?
Repair work will be carefully staged to reduce flooding risk to the city of Marseilles and local areas.
How HCSS Software assisted with this project
