Ryatt Construction Proves Implementation Can Be Seamless

“I would recommend HCSS to any other company that does what we do. It makes it easier. You get the reporting that you need. The fact that everything integrates is super user-friendly for everyone, from the estimators to the foremen in the field, and the same with accounting. Everything just goes together, and it saves time in the long run.”

– Brianna Huff, PMP, Construction Operations Manager

For a full decade now, Brianna Huff has worked for Ryatt Construction in the Pacific Northwest – Seattle, Washington, to be exact. Wearing multiple hats as the Construction Operations Manager, her day-to-day duties include having her hands in pretty much everything. At this point, she’s helped implement four essential HCSS programs, helping out their project managers, mechanics, estimators, and trucking dispatchers.

Discovering HCSS

Huff first discovered HCSS at CONEXPO in Las Vegas when she was on the hunt for a system that fully integrated with all of their operations.

“I’ve implemented a few different systems in the past, and it seems like we’re constantly changing systems to try and get things to work better together,” Huff comments. “When I found out about HCSS and knowing that everything would work together and integrate, that was my key point.”

After onboarding with HeavyBid, the next step for Ryatt was to implement HeavyJob as well.

“We really love the integration from HeavyBid to HeavyJob,” she says. “Before, we were doing everything manually, so we had a system where they would print out the bid, and we would literally go in and enter it by hand.”

The estimating team had HeavyBid up and running in the fall, then worked their way into HeavyJob about six months later. By the following May, both programs had been executed at full force.

“The implementation of HCSS was probably the best of any other software that we’ve ever used,” Huff comments. “The teams that we worked with, the people that flew out, the support teams online and on the phone, everything was really easy. That’s saying a lot because many of our guys are not tech guys by any means, and this has been a huge step for them.”

Technical Support is Always There

Along the way, Huff and the rest of the Ryatt team were no strangers to calling HCSS Technical Support if they ever hit a snag. The support was always available 24/7 in 3 rings or less.

“I use HCSS support often and it’s usually for one-off questions that I just need to know the answer to right now,” she adds. “If someone didn’t have the answer, they got me to someone that did. And I mean every single person that I’ve talked to on the phone has had an answer for me.”

One feature that Huff can’t see them living without is the reject button in HeavyJob.

“In the past with other software, our project managers were spending hours fixing people’s time cards, and they love the idea that they can reject it and say you have to fix it yourself because now they’re not wasting the time that they were before.”

Implementing More HCSS Products as the Company Grows

In addition to the formidable pairing of HeavyBid and HeavyJob, Equipment360 and HCSS Dispatcher round out Ryatt’s software licenses.

Designed with a user-friendly interface that simplifies navigation and access to critical information, shop managers can easily view equipment statuses and generate reports from desktops, tablets, or smartphones – perfect for managing the tasks of a busy fleet while on the move.

“Our mechanics love it,” Huff says of Equipment360. “It’s the only software we’ve implemented for them, and it’s pretty much everything they asked for.”

With Equipment360, assigning work orders to mechanics right on a tablet is an ideal way to stay organized and track maintenance labor costs.

Taking their use of Equipment360 a step further, Ryatt Construction connected HCSS Dispatcher as well. This integration enabled data-sharing between the two programs. Even with a single employee overseeing the bulk of their trucking department, using Dispatcher as the primary scheduling software has proved a superb way to track everything from equipment and crews to tools and rentals.

“Dispatcher has been good,” Huff says. “I would say it’s an easy, user-friendly system to use. I have one person that runs it right now and has everything that we need.”

Going forward, Ryatt plans to keep adding software that will help its operations grow and grow.

“I am pushing to expand our use for HCSS,” Huff says, admitting a little bit of FOMO when it comes to other offerings within the HCSS platform they haven’t yet utilized as an organization. “We have four of the products now, and every time I talk to someone and hear about them using something that we don’t have, I’m like, ‘That would definitely help us out!’”

Ryatt Construction is constantly looking for ways to grow, and they’ve made considerable strides in the past 10 years, just recently expanding into Arizona. To say the least, the company is definitely heading in the right direction.
